Venkatesh Murthy

Venkatesh Murthy is the coordinator of ‘Youth for Seva’, a forum for college students and young professionals to volunteer their time and talent for community service.

After completing his B.Tech in Computer Science from KREC(now NIT), Suratkal in 1990, Venkatesh worked for 2 years with Tata Research Development and Design Center in Pune. In 1992, he moved to US and lived in US for 14 years. Apart from professional engagement, he was actively involved with many voluntary organizations like Balagokulam and Sewa International, USA. He took time off for two years (1997-1999) and volunteered full time in West Indies (Trinidad and Guyana) working with children and youth.

In January 2007, Venkatesh relocated back to Bangalore and was working as Manager, Software Development at EMC Data Storage Systems. He along with few friends started the project, “Youth for Seva” to provide a platform for youth to give back to the community. Since its inception, YFS has attracted over 3000 volunteers in Bangalore. Since May 2008, he has quit his job at EMC and is volunteering full time with Youth for Seva.
